When Sarah and Matt asked me to take their engagement pictures in St. Catherines Decew Falls, I had no idea what I was getting into. Waterfalls and nature make beautiful backdrops for engagement pictures, and as this was over the Thanksgiving long weekend, I knew we would also be treated with the beauty of the Canadian autumn colors - I was excited! While Sarah did warn me we would be hiking a bit, I definitely did not expect to get a workout while doing the shoot...
When I arrived at the location, I was greeted by a charming historic home and the Morningstar Mill. Right away I could see so many amazing photo opportunities! And while I could see the falls right by the mill, I didn't see a direct path leading down. I started to suspect that when Sara said hike, she meant Hike!
Once Sarah and Matt arrived, we set out on our adventure. It was not an easy task lugging all the equipment with me through the trail, down boulders, over fallen trees, and across slippery rocks and muddy paths, but it was definitely worth it!! The autumn foliage, the sound of the falls, and the smell of nature helped set the mood for the shoot, although Sarah and Matt didn't need the extra help - it was clear they are madly in love with one another as they posed for their pictures.
On our way back, we came across a large open field, and I couldn't resist pulling Matt and Sarah in for another few photos. With the Sun setting, Matt and Sarah were absolutely glowing, and my camera just kept clicking. It was a delightful afternoon and I cannot wait to see what other adventures there will be at their wedding next Summer.
